Math problem help?

In order to collect money for the scholarship fund, the director decided to conduct a performance at school and sell tickets for it. There is a large theater that he can use for this purpose. The owners of the theatre have donated its use for free. Some of the tickets will priced at $5 and others at $10. The director needs to collect $1500 for the scholarship fund. He wants to know how many of each priced ticket must be sold to earn this much money.

The task is to write and solve an equation for the above mentioned situation in such a way that you collect the required $1500 by selling both $5 and $10 tickets.

x=number of places representing $5 seats

y=number of seats representhing $10

x+y = 210 (Eq1)

5x+10y = 1500 (Eq2)

Multiply Eq1 by -5

-5x -5y = -1050 (Eq3)

Add this equation to Eq2

-5x - 5y = -1050

5x + 10y = 1500

0x +5y = 450

y = 450/5

y = 90.

Sub y=90 into Eq1

x + 90 = 210

x = 210-90

x = 120

Check:

120+90 = 210

210 = 210 Correct.

5(120) +10(90) = 1500

600 + 900 = 1500 Correct

1500 = 1500

Do you know how many seats are available?
For one, how many seats are available? IF you know that, then you can figure it out. Did someone not pay attention in math class?
5x + 10y = 1500

x+y=210

y = 210-x

5x + 10(210-x)=1500

5x + 2100 - 10x = 1500

-5x +2100 = 1500 (subtract 2100 from both sides)

-5x = -600 (divide both sides by -5)

x = 120

y = 210 - 120

y = 90
It would be more logical if you knew how many seats in the theatre were in good locations then work it backwards. Sorry I am not doing your homework for you. Go study.
